The diminutive but deadly centre forward has notched 22 league goals this season, placing him second on the scoring charts behind Leeds United's prolific marksman Chris Wood.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez says he has yet to decide who will replace Dwight Gayle in the side for tonight's match against Leeds United.

The waters were further muddied by the securing of a late point for the visitors that, though hardly deserved, was nevertheless a reward for the spirit that Garry Monk has fostered among his players.

After spending most of the campaign at the top of the table, the Magpies now find themselves sitting second behind Brighton & Hove Albion, two points in arrears of the leaders.

Newcastle, looking to play balls into Mitrovic, took time to settle into the game, but by the half-hour mark they were making some headway in the visiting half of the pitch.

"I don't understand a lot of things from the last few games but we have to be proud of the effort".

Leeds were completely outplayed by the hosts at a sold-out St James' Park, before Wood tucked home Kemar Roofe's cross in the 95th minute.

"I don't sense any huge pressure on the players at Leeds, even though they'd expect to get into the play-offs now". The last time it was three minutes in the first half then we had seven minutes lost on the penalty incident and five minutes at the end when we were winning 2-1.

"It is hard to understand why we had a penalty the other day and it went on for seven minutes, and then they gave only three minutes".

Blackburn won for the first time eight games as Tommie Hoban powered in from Connor Mahoney's corner at the City Ground.

"We created enough chances to win the game. It was good to see all round, they were excellent from start to finish and those two, two young lads, growing all the time, great experiences for them, but most importantly, good performances".

After their 3-0 win over Preston the Whites have crept closer to their promotion goal and go into this weekend's double header five points ahead of seventh-placed Fulham and three in front of sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday with a plus four better goal difference.
