Christians mark Easter at Jerusalem site of Jesus's resurrection

Christians around the world celebrated Easter on Sunday, as Pope Francis and others expressed concern over embattled communities in the cradle of the faith following church bombings in Egypt and attacks on civilians in Syria's civil war.

"The significance of Easter is it reflects hope that there is life beyond this world".

Then he asked his followers who they thought he was and Peter spoke up and said, "You are the Christ, the son of the living God".

He said Jesus Christ, who was magnanimously selfless even to sacrifice his own life for the sake of fellow human beings, thus gave an example for humankind to understand that the divine love is eternal.

Reverend Edmunds expects to preach to 3,500 people in three services. "We must appreciate this and strive to rid the country of all social evils by propagating the message of peace", he emphasized.

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended congratulations on Sunday to Orthodox Christians and all Russian citizens on Easter.
