"I am staying because Atletico Madrid has a future".

The Argentine coach has been linked Inter Milan, where he spent two seasons in the nineties, and Arsenal where the north London club have been long-term admirers.

Diego Simeone has reiterated, following Atletico Madrid's final game of the season, that he will stay at the club and lead them into their new stadium in the autumn.

"I still feel the same pride to belong to this club", the 33-year-old said to AS.

He explained: "I am staying here". The club, right now, has a sanction which stops them from signing, we will see what the CAS say, what the club decide, if we can bring in players and if not, who counts and who doesn't.

His deal now expires next June after having two years trimmed off but the 2013-14 LaLiga title victor intends to be in the dugout when Atleti open the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium next term.

"In the end we will decide what's for the best".

"We will speak about the growth for our future".

"The bases here are solid".

"The tremendous stadium we enter in September will make further demands, we need to all take another step to match it".

They emerged victorious thanks to two goals from Fernando Torres with Angel Correa completing a 3-1 victory after Inaki Williams had pulled one back for Athletic.

"I hope I can be in the new stadium next season, helping my team-mates, scoring goals and making history for the club".

Sunday's defeat could prove costly for Athletic Bilbao in the race for Europa League football, with Ernesto Valverde's men dropping to seventh place in the table and now reliant on the outcome of the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Alaves.

Atletico finished third in La Liga for a third straight season since breaking Real Madrid and Barcelona's hegemony by winning the title in 2013/14.
