"(After the first set) I created opportunities, (but) I didn't do well enough in converting them.

After Konta missed a makeable smash at 2-2, Hsieh took control to level the match before breaking Konta twice in succession in the third to maintain the momentum.

After her victory Hsieh thanked her team for supporting her, saying: "Thank you for my team".

"I was making jokes yesterday, saying "coach, I'm so nervous everywhere, I can not play" and then when you make it amusing you feel more relaxed on the court".

It initially looked as though it would be a walk in the park for Konta as she wrapped up the first set in 25 minutes, but she squandered five break points in the second and was taken to a tie-break. "It was an unbelievable result".

Furthermore, Konta's ability to mix up her play, including some solid net work and looping top-spin forehands continually disrupted Hsieh's rhythm and put the seventh seed firmly in control.

Kyrgios, known for his periodic bad temper and sulks on court, sealed his victory on his first match point. The women hit the ball really big right now, it's not really easy for the Asian players because we're not like the other girls hitting the big shots.

The 31-year-old entered the match with a 2-5 record on the season and was dominated in the first set but she quickly gathered herself to push Konta in the middle set.

"I think I probably came out of the blocks a bit quicker than she did".

"I know results-wise it doesn't reflect it necessarily, but the conversations I have with my coach and the way I feel, I've actually made a lot of improvements on this surface with every match that I played", Konta said.

"But then there were times where I felt that she did play incredibly well. I did not give up at any stage until the very, very last point".
