A Las Vegas woman told investigators Tuesday that her dead child had been in a southern IL home for two years, and authorities later found human remains in the vacant house, according to authorities. The dead child was found in the detached garage of a dilapidated, boarded-up home in Centreville, an impoverished community just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis.

Any charges related to the girl's death would be filed in IL. The victim was so badly decomposed investigators could not immediately determine whether the child was a boy or a girl.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Authorities on Thursday filed prostitution-related charges against a man jailed in Las Vegas after his wife reported that he killed their then-6-year-old daughter in 2013 and hid the body in a garage of an abandoned house near St. Louis.

The discovery was made Tuesday in Centreville, a suburb southeast of St. Louis.

Quate told the Post-Dispatch that the girl choked to death when he spanked her, unaware that she still had Salisbury steak in her mouth.

Officers found the small body wrapped in two blankets.

Prostitution-related charges have been filed in Las Vegas against a man jailed after his wife reported that he killed their then-6-year-old daughter in 2013 and hid the body in IL. Quate has not been charged in his daughter's death, though a homicide investigation continues in IL.

The woman told police that she and Quate met in IL but later moved to Las Vegas.

A separate child abuse charge against Quate is pending, said Audrie Locke, an aide to Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson in Las Vegas.

Contact 13 investigated the background of the man Las Vegas police charged with sex trafficking, and IL officials suspect may be involved in the death of one of his own children.

A man under investigation after his wife told police he killed their 6-year-old daughter and hid the body in an IL garage is directing suspicion at his wife.

"She told us during the course of that interview that during a physical altercation, one of the children had died as a result of her husband", Spencer said. She also said her husband, 34-year-old Jason Quate, forced her into sex trafficking over the past two years. A day earlier, he told KSNV-TV in Las Vegas that his wife had told him she had put the girl up for adoption. Las Vegas police said the two surviving girls were kept inside virtually all the time and didn't attend school. "You have some very seasoned SWAT officers who were visibly shaken and moved by how disturbing of a scene it was out there this morning", said Las Vegas police Lt.
