A spokesperson for Keith Richards told The Associated Press that Pallenberg died Tuesday at St Richard's Hospital in the city of Chichester, located in southeast England.

Anita Pallenberg, the actress and model who became one of the most iconic faces of the 1960s and 1970s, has died.

Pallenberg was well known for her inimitable sense of style, which captured the energy and aesthetic of the rock'n'roll scene of the Sixties and Seventies, as well as her high-profile relationships with Keith Richards and Brian Jones.

Anita Pallenberg, the Italian-German model and the former wife of Rolling Stones founding member Keith Richards, has died at 73. It was speculated that she also had an affair with frontman Mick Jagger, a rumor Pallenberg always denied. She also filmed Performance that year, but Warner Bros. did not release the violent, hallucinogenic film until 1970. In 2001, Pallenberg guest starred on Absolutely Fabulous with another Rolling Stones associate Marianne Faithfull. Also, everyone else is writing one, so why on earth should she? "They all wanted salacious".

She developed a keen interest in medicine, picture restoration and graphic design in her youth and studied all three subjects without pursuing a formal degree.

The Stones' "Miss Amanda Jones" and "You Got the Silver" were inspired by Pallenberg. "I will love you forever, dearest Anita", Buell wrote. In 1979, when a teen lover shot himself in the bedroom of her NY apartment while Keith was recording in Paris, Anita admitted she "didn't feel anything" and blamed it on "the wonders of drugs and drink".

Pallenberg was born in Rome in 1944.

Pallenberg's death was confirmed by Stella Schnabel, a friend and the daughter of artist-director Julian Schnabel. However, Pallenberg left Jones for Richards, which led to a tumultuous relationship before they broke up in 1980. She was expelled from boarding school, aged sixteen, and went work as a model, travelling across Europe and the United States, before arriving at Andy Warhol's Factory. "She scared the trousers off me!"

Jo Bergman, the band's assistant in the late '60s and early '70s, once said: "Anita is a Rolling Stone. Back in NY again with my then boyfriend we hung out with all the pop artists: Warhol, Nico and that lot". We had good times and bad times, but I only remember the good times now.
