McGregor fight is finally on

Floyd Mayweather Jr. said Wednesday he will come out of retirement to face UFC star Conor McGregor in a boxing match on August 26. The facts that Mayweather is 40 and won't have fought in almost two years by the time he meets McGregor on August 26 also will motivate Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs) to train as hard as possible for their 12-round, 154-pound fight in Las Vegas (Showtime Pay-Per-View). It will be fought at 154 pounds with the boxers using 10-ounce boxing gloves.

"This is really an unprecedented event", said Stephen Espinoza, who heads Showtime Sports, which will handle the pay-per-view. That's legendary shit. That fight will go down in history.

Earlier this year, UFC President, Dana White, claimed that he highly doubted the fight would ever happen.

Ironically, van Heerden actually called out a possible opponent for the undercard of the Mayweather-McGregor fight, so we could have the chance to see what McGregor's sparring partner does in a fight before McGregor battles in the main event. Floyd is one of the greatest of all time in boxing.

Who will win? Totally depends on who you ask. If McGregor is going to make around $100 million even after UFC takes their cut, that means Mayweather is due to make well over $200 million.

"McGregor has a lot of confidence because of what he's achieved in the UFC but he's not getting in there with a domestic-level fighter, he's getting in there with one of the greatest fighters of all time".

Mayweather said that a confidentiality clause is in place and that the financial purses of the fighters will not be disclosed.

MMA Junkie reports that updated betting odds have been revealed for the upcoming Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match, with Mayweather (-800) as the favorite over McGregor (+500).

"If I'm honest I believe Mayweather will beat him but I'd love McGregor to knock him out..." It comes less than a month before Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez meet in a highly anticipated fight September 16 that could rival it for pay-per-view buys.

McGregor has fought everyone White has put in front of him. It would be a joke, it would be an embarrassment for boxing if an MMA fighter were to go into the ring, it would be a no contest.

Floyd, who bowed out of the sport in 2015 after his 49th consecutive win, shared a poster advertising the big bout in Las Vegas on Instagram, and simply captioned it, "IT'S OFFICIAL!"
