This year, he led the Rockets to a 55-27 record, good enough for third in the Western Conference.

D'Antoni was announced as the victor of NBA's Coach of the Year award Monday during the league's award show on TNT.

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue finished outside the top 10. The Rockets, who barely squeaked into the playoffs in the season prior to D'Antoni's hiring with a 41-41 record, led the league in shots from behind the arch and were second in points per game to only the Warriors. The Rockets finished less than a point behind the National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors for the second best scoring average in the league, finishing with 115.3 points per game to Golden State's 115.9.

Houston Rockets boss Mike D'Antoni was named Coach of the Year at the NBA Awards in New York City on Monday.

The NBA Finals MVP award is named for Russell, who was one of the most dominant defensive players in NBA history.

Gordon beat out teammate Lou Williams and Golden State's Andre Iguodala.

Gordon averaged 16.4 points off the bench and made 246 three-pointers, placing him fourth in the league this season. He also became the first Buck to win the award since Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the 1969-70 season.

The guard won the first award Monday night during the first NBA Awards show that was hosted by Drake. Instead of Dario Saric or big man Joel Embiid winning the NBA's Rookie of the Year award, it went to the Milwaukee Bucks' Malcolm Brogdon.

Golden State's Draymond Green was the leading vote-getter for the All-Defensive team. There were four global players on the first team for the first time in the award's history.

Popovich is nearly always a finalist for NBA Coach of the Year.

"I am both humbled and honored to win this award", Brogdon said in a statement released by the team.
