The initiative was launched here by World Bank President Jim Yong Kim in the presence of Ivanka Trump and her father as also G20 host Angela Merkel and other world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde.

Democratic countries do not typically follow the practice of replacing state heads with unelected representatives and usual protocol would see the Vice-President or the Secretary of State take the place of the President.

Ivanka was primarily there to advocate the launch of the G20 Women Entrepreneurship Fund and the finance initiative behind it that would be providing the funding for the programme.

But when the 35-year-old former fashion executive sat at the table with Xi Jinping, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Angela Merkel and Theresa May, Trump's enemies pounced.

The president's daughter, who also functions as one of his unofficial advisors, was apparently deputized to take Trump's place after he departed the room for a brief period.

The man who inherited his own fortune then added, with no apparent sense of irony, "If she weren't my daughter, it'd be so much easier for her".

There have been claims of family biased over the course of, controversial US President, Donald Trump's time in office after he gave a number of top jobs to his cronise. "Might be the only bad thing she has going, if you want to know the truth". Clearly, Ivanka continues to find a place for herself in her father's White House, and at crucial political events around the globe.

".it seems to me it's [G20's] great value for Trump is in multiple high level bi-laterals, not group action." he tweeted. "I would say not to conflate lack of public denouncement with silence".

Aides and advisers regularly attend G20 meetings with world leaders, as Ivanka Trump, Mnuchin and others did during Friday's session.

It's not clear exactly why Trump left the meeting, nor how long he was away.

"I am very proud of my daughter Ivanka", he said.

Although Ivanka serves as an unpaid adviser and assistant to the president, many were furious at her joining the table.

Lukash has been live tweeting the G-20 Summit, with a number of tweets still up on her account centered on the participation of the first daughter.
