Alongside the price cut on the VR headset, the Oculus Touch controllers also saw a price drop from $199 to just $99.

Sony PlayStation VR now retails for $399, which matches the price Oculus is offering during its summer sale. It's much more powerful than the Google Daydream View or the Samsung Gear VR - although Oculus makes the Gear VR.

Facebook is offering the Oculus Rift headset, along with two Touch controllers for the lowest price yet. That's a pretty incredible deal considering the bundle, which includes the Rift headset itself plus a pair of hand-tracking Touch controllers, previously cost $798.

Jason Rubin, Oculus vice president for content, denied that the price cut was a sign of weak sales, Reuters reported. The Oculus deal is also featured on newegg.com.

Oculus hasn't disclosed sales for the Rift, but analysts say it continues to trail its rivals by a wide margin. "That's when we think the scale will really goal, and hopefully you'll get many millions of people into VR, playing great games and other stuff", Iribe said at the time. The "Summer of Rift" as Oculus is calling it, lasts for only six weeks by which the price will return to its previous point.

"Somebody who goes out and buys a Rift (on sale) is not going to find themselves with hardware that's outdated any time soon", he said. Coming in second was the PlayStation VR headset, which shipped 375,000 units. At the time, Rubin said the action was created to bring VR to a broader audience.
