Fowler hit the man, knocked off his glasses and stepped on them, police said. The victim was uninjured, according to what the victim and a witness told police. The victim had a grocery bag with recently purchased liquor inside which Fowler took and threw into a lake as well.

Jaguars DE Dante Fowler was also arrested in March 2016 on charges of assault on an officer/EMT in Miami Beach.

Details about the incident have not been released.

For the Jacksonville Jaguars to right their sinking ship in 2017, they'll need a big season out of key members of its defense like defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. He was released at 1:43 a.m. Wednesday after posting a $650 bond, paid in cash.

Fowler was charged with simple battery and criminal mischief. The team has been in communication with Dante.

Fowler played for the University of Florida and was the Jaguars' first-round draft pick in 2015. His rookie season was marred when he tore his ACL on the first day of mini-camp, resulting in a season-ending injury. This arrest comes exactly one week before Fowler, and his teammates, are scheduled to report for training camp. Fowler is too talented and there is too much invested in him as a player - on a defense that is projected to break out no less - for the Jaguars to actually cut him.
