Cowboys WR Lucky Whitehead was arrested for petty theft in June

Before that, Whitehead was evidently arrested and charged with shoplifting on June 22 in Prince William County, VA.

Whitehead has a warrant out for his arrest after he failed to show up for a court appearance in connection with his arrest for shoplifting at a convenience store earlier this year.

Garrett says the club is figuring out the scope of the situation before making any decisions.

A Cowboys spokesman said the team has no comment on the matter.

This furthers the case that Whitehead, who has been a nonfactor as a wide receiver and a largely unexceptional kick returner for the Cowboys, may not be long for the Dallas roster.

"I didn't even know about that", he told reporters. That's because he had no idea the court date was ever scheduled.

Last week, Whitehead made headlines after saying on social media that his dog was taken for ransom money.

The dog was soon returned, but Whitehead's already tenuous spot on the Cowboys roster is now in jeopardy.

Whitehead's legal trouble is just the most recent - or at least the latest to come to light - for the Cowboys in recent months. The running back also is awaiting possible punishment from the National Football League stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident last July in Columbus, Ohio. He also rushed 20 times for 189 yards and caught nine passes for 64 yards. It's possible the star running back could miss one to two games. Cornerback Nolan Carroll was arrested in Dallas for driving while intoxicated and linebacker Damien Wilson was arrested for two counts of felony aggravated assault.
