'I'm not going anywhere,' Tillerson denies resignation rumors

A source familiar with the situation told Reuters that Tillerson was "very upset at not having autonomy, independence and control over his own department and the ability to do the job the way the job.is traditionally done".

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has denied news reports that he was considering leaving his post, saying he is "not going anywhere".

Secretarty of State intends to remain US's top diplomat "as long as the president lets me".

Asked about his relationship with President Donald Trump, Tillerson said simply, "Good".

Tillerson's friends outside Washington D.C. say he plans to stay at the State Department through the holidays so he can walk away with a year in the cabinet under his belt, CNN reported Monday.

"I don't know what is standard for secretaries of state", Nauert said.

Pressed about Mr Tillerson's light schedule in recent days, Ms Nauert said he was "just taking a little time off".

"So, he's entitled to take a few days himself".

Before last week, Tillerson had strongly maintained he would see through his task of reorganizing the entire State Department after Trump's March budget proposal laid out plans to cut $10 billion from its roughly $47 billion in funding. Trump also has sided with Saudi Arabia in its feud with Qatar even as Tillerson has sought to mediate the dispute between the two USA allies.

Tillerson spoke briefly with reporters before heading into a meeting with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Washington. "We have a lot of work that is left to be done ahead of us. He recognizes that. He's deeply engaged in that work".
