A teenage boy opened an emergency exit on a plane that landed at San Francisco International Airport Tuesday afternoon and exited the plane onto the tarmac, a spokesman for the airport said.

The 17-year old US citizen, who was described as being fidgety and anxious during the flight, had just arrived about 2:30 p.m. after traveling alone from Panama City onboard Copa Airlines, according to the Associated Press.

The flight crew closed the exit door, and the plane continued to its gate without any more trouble. An airport spokesperson says the passenger, who was a USA citizen, was detained by a construction crew working on the airfield and had been taken into custody. The plane went to the assigned gate and all the passengers were de-boarded safely.

The teen was not injured and airport operations were not affected, KTVU reported.
