Three people were shot Thursday afternoon at a popular park in San Francisco's Mission District, police said.

Officer Grace Gatpandan, San Francisco is on the lookout for that one gunman who fled the scene after the shooting.

The gunfire erupted about 3 p.m. on the west edge of Dolores Park near Church Street, said San Francisco police Sgt. Michael Andraychak.

Antonia Juhasz, a witness, told local media that she saw a shooter firing with a handgun from behind a statue at the park, which was packed with kids and their parents at the time.

"It was a terrifying, mostly because people weren't reacting", she added. "Literally, just a moment of glimpsing up and seeing one person raising their gun to my face - that's when 6 or 7 rounds got shot off - and I just took off running".

"At first people didn't totally react because it sounded like fireworks", said Juhasz, a writer and freelance journalist.

The park, which sits on a hill, was crowded with people, including children in a playground and running around the grass. Both were bleeding as emergency workers carried them away on stretchers, she said.
