He said a huge number of people were waiting for Sharif along the Grand Trunk Road linking the capital, Islamabad, with Lahore, which is about 380 km (237 miles) distant.

Despite the heat and humidity, hundreds of people walked for about 2 kilometers with Sharif's slow-moving convoy, as volunteers distributed bottles of water. "This is not a million march this is a ten million march", he said downplaying criticism that participants in the rally were less than expected.

Shahbaz is now likely to replace his brother as party chief, since the ousted premier is no longer eligible to lead a political party under a Pakistani law that bars any convicted or disqualified person from such a role.

Nawaz Sharif's caravan entered Rawalpindi and is set to continue its journey, via the GT Road, for his hometown of Lahore.

The President apprised the Prime Minister of his recent foreign visits wherein he highlighted the grave human rights violations by Indian security forces in IOK. After 60 days, the probe committee filed its report in the court and within two weeks, a verdict was delivered that ordered the elections authority to disqualify Nawaz Sharif. The investigation was launched after Panama Papers leak revealed in April 2016 that Sharif's two sons and a daughter owned at least three offshore companies registered on the British Virgin Islands.

He has also planned to deliver speeches at important places where even bigger crowds of supporters are expected to turn up. He wants justice for eight of his supporters killed in anti-government rallies in 2014.

Under Pakistan's laws, Sharif can not lead his party because of his disqualification and he is expected to give this position to Shahbaz Sharif this week.
