Dallas Cowboys Superstar Ezekiel Elliot Suspended Six Games

The NFL's press releases have indicated a lot of evidence against Elliott, so we will see how this goes.

This investigation started more than a year ago when Elliott's ex-girlfriend accused him of abuse and while the Columbus City Attorney's office did not pursue charges due to "conflicting and inconsistent information", the National Football League is well within its right to take action, even without legal action being taken.

The NFL took a very long time investigating Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, but the league has finally reached a decision on how to handle his case. The Chiefs will be the second game Elliot suits up for after opening against the Washington Redskins in Week 8. With that said, a possible two-game suspension could possibly be reduced to a one-year game suspension upon appeal.

The NFL said it made its decision based on more than a dozen witnesses' testimonies, photographs and other digital evidence, thousands of text messages, and electronic communications records.

That leaves Rod Smith at tailback and Keith Smith, who primarily works at fullback, to handle significant snaps in practice and receive the bulk of the load in those early preseason games. If he does not, it will begin September 2, and he would be eligible to return on October 23.

Elliott was accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend while the two were in a vehicle together.

The Columbus City Attorney's Office chose not to file criminal charges, citing conflicting and inconsistent information.

USA TODAY Sports also reported police in Florida were called after the same woman reported Elliott pushed her up against a wall in February 2016.

Several months before, Thompson had told police in Florida that Elliott had pushed her against a wall and injured her left shoulder.

The Cowboys will have to find their ground game production behind experienced back-ups, Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris, while Elliott is on the sideline. In July, he was involved in a bar fight in Dallas and was accused of breaking a man's nose.
