Roy Moore, Luther Strange Head for Runoff in Alabama Senate Race

Unusual was forced into a runoff with the firebrand jurist despite an endorsement from President Donald Trump and heavy investment by a super political action committee tied to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The Republican runoff will take place September 26.

Moore chose to seek the Senate seat after he was suspended on September 30, 2016, for the remainder of his term as chief justice after he was found guilty of six charges of violation of the canons of judicial ethics, reports, over his stance on same-sex marriage.

With 59 of 67 counties reporting, Brooks received 16 percent of the vote - far behind unusual with 32 percent and Moore with 44 percent.

A Republican candidate backed by President Donald Trump for a U.S. Senate seat from Alabama is expected to finish a distant second in a primary election on Tuesday, but will still have enough votes to advance to a run-off, local news projected.

On the Democratic side, a former US attorney under the Clinton administration, Jones was backed by former Vice President Joe Biden and some other national party figures. Again, the president tweeted out support for the Senator on Monday. He lost both battles but in the process built a huge national following of Christian conservatives who are deeply frustrated at what they perceive as a secular-judicial war against God and morality in the public square. "I look forward to facing Congressman Brooks, and I hope it's a very competitive race as we get our message out there".

The social conservative icon, who is capable of reciting long quotations from Founding Fathers' speeches, quoted George Washington on the need for "fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the universe" last night. "He's endorsed me", unusual said Monday as he encouraged Alabamians to get out and vote.

President Donald Trump has congratulated both Alabama Sen.

"I've known Judge Moore for over 25 years and I know him to be a man of proven character and integrity", Dobson said in a statement. "But I'll continue to hold the constitution and the right to acknowledge God".

At best Moore has a mediocre intellect and substandard legal erudition.
