"We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon".

We've been waiting for the Selma director to get tapped by Lucasfilm for awhile now, ever since since a person who knows a little something about traveling to the galaxy far, far away told us why she'd make for a great choice.

Seems like, the force isn't with the "Star Wars" franchise as another one of its movies lost its director!

Being hired by Lucasfilm to direct a Star Wars movie isn't the Hollywood equivalent of being named the new drummer for Spinal Tap, but it's heading there. To his credit, Johnson is just as direct in his response.

Nothing has been officially confirmed just yet, but with Johnson having recently tweeted that, "I'd do another Star Wars movie in a heartbeat", we'd imagine it's only a matter of time.

Gareth Edwards: Edwards is credited as the sole director of the fine Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but the film was famously rewritten, reshot and reshuffled by Tony Gilroy, a gifted Hollywood script whisperer who basically invented a new third act, which likely explains the 75% of trailer footage that never shows up in the real movie. That will be determined on December 15, 2017, when this movie hits theaters.

Trevorrow was due to write and direct the movie. John Boyega's Finn and Kelly Marie Tran's Rose find themselves among the high rollers on a vital mission that we won't spoil here, but you can see them both facing off on the gaming floor in this exclusive picture from the October issue of Empire.

His reputation got damaged after the fiasco of his recent project The Book of Henry, that was criticized a lot and flopped at the box office. According to the article, the scene on the planet Cantonica takes place about midway through Star Wars: The Last Jedi and is said to be a key component to the story.

This is the latest upheaval in the Star Wars universe.

Some fans might be disappointed they'll have to wait a bit longer for more answers surrounding the mysterious ruler, but they should be happy with the emphasis Johnson is giving to Kylo Ren in The Last Jedi. "Star Wars", like many franchises, have nabbed young directors who have either made an impressive first movie within the studio system or an ambitious indie film.

RON HOWARD - When trouble began on the set of Han Solo, Lucasfilm tapped him to take over and right the ship. "Even though it's Star Wars, the whole thing has felt bizarrely similar to my experience making Looper or Brick or The Brothers Bloom".
