In one of the more unexpected developments of the summer, particularly given Manchester United's newfound firepower, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was offered a new deal at Old Trafford.

How he fares on his return is still a mystery but if he can get anywhere close to the 28 goals he managed in all competitions last term, then agreeing a new deal will have been well worth it.

But the 24-year-old former Everton and Chelsea striker is not shirking from the challenge that Ibrahimovic will pose to his starting spot.

Mourinho has also included Ibrahimovic in the Champions League Squad this season but will return in January.

Ibrahimovic has usually worn No. 9 throughout his career, including at United last season, but Romelu Lukaku claimed that number after arriving in the summer. Lukaku believes the veteran's experience and character will benefit the team.

"The two players are in this situation are Zlatan and Carrick - two players that at the end of the season who are going to sit and to analyse what they did and what they want to do".

Lukaku, who has become United's main striker, said recently Ibrahimovic was still beneficial to have in the side.

"The club have indicated there could be a role for him here at some point".

"But just Carrick and Zlatan, all the other players are under the club control until end of the 18/19 season, so we are speaking about June '19".

'I already knew for a while that Zlatan would sign but I didn't tell anyone, ' Lukaku revealed to reporters earlier this month.
