Active shooter reported at New Hampshire medical center

Lebanon police said as of 2:57 p.m. a person believed to be involved in the incident at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center has been taken into police custody. The hospital was under lockdown and it wasn't clear if that was lifted.

The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health System tweeted that Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon is on lockdown due to the reported shooter. There is now no confirmation that any shots were fired during the incident, though employees were told to either evacuate or shelter in place.

The university urged people to avoid the area until further notice. A code silver is a active shooter.

"We are assessing the situation now, and will have more information as soon as it becomes available", the hospital said in a statement posted on Twitter.

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Vermont state police assisted New Hampshire and local police.

The state attorney general's office is investigating.

The college said uniformed officers are "sweeping" Dartmouth-Hitchcock facilities "to ensure the buildings are safe on the Lebanon campus".
