Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez

Canelo Alvarez has been one of the biggest names in boxing for a long, long time, and on Saturday he'll be fighting one just about as big in Gennady Golovkin on HBO pay-per-view.

It's a fight that pits arguably the two best pound-for-pound boxers in the world against each other now that Mayweather has retired. Alvarez is a former welterweight and super welterweight champion who moved up to a catch weight of 164 pounds for his fight against Chavez. Boasting destructive punching power, fan-friendly styles and unyielding fortitude, both athletes showcase plenty of examples as to why they will have their hand raised. Alvarez has not tasted defeat since losing a majority decision against Floyd Mayweather in 2013.

The fight doesn't quite have the hype of Mayweather-McGregor, but it has a great chance to be the fight of the year.

A knockout artist with counterpunching prowess, Alvarez incorporates body shots and left hooks to pummel his opposition in close exchanges inside the pocket. "They want to win".

But Alvarez packs power, too, and the red-headed Mexican is a savage counterpuncher with a style that should match up perfectly against the onrushing Golovkin. But he's also the elder statesman in this bout (35).

Golovkin (37-0, 33 knockouts) has been established as a 2-1 favorite over Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 knockouts) in a bout that was several years in the making. He however has a different approach to defense, when compared to the more agile Golovkin.

Chargin, who considers Robinson the greatest of all time, has been an adviser for Golden Boy Promotions for several years, and thus knows a bit more about Alvarez, Golden Boy's meal ticket, than Golovkin, who has been taken from unknown to the top of his sport by Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions. Utilizing a snapping jab and brutal overhand right, Golovkin dishes out as much damage with his precise combinations as he does with his aggression as an in-fighter. His adversary on Saturday is the complete opposite. You have a 27-yr old Alvarez, who is among the world's best in boxing but is still getting better every fight.
