Manchester United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan keen to improve to keep starting place

"I can say last season I started not good as I had lots of injuries and I didn't feel good playing games", Mkhitaryan said.

"He didn't exactly name names but everyone thinks they have done something bad or made a mistake and we are trying to improve that aspect and stay more focused during the whole game and not be doing fantasy football or, as he said, PlayStation for the last 25 minutes".

Two of Chelsea's three Champions League group games are away on a Wednesday but they have been given 5.30pm Saturday kick-offs and their trip to Roma next month is five days before they play United at Stamford Bridge at 4.30pm on a Sunday.

Many observers have already picked the two Manchester clubs as the two main contenders in this season's race, already registering a goal difference that is double that of third place Chelsea. Work hard in every game, do the things we need to do in the right way and wait for the other teams to lose points along the way.

Mourinho didn't bring up the issue at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon, but will likely do so if United hit a tricky patch in either competition.

However, it is highly probable that CSKA's manager has instructed his players to pay closer attention to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, our midfield Armenian who has become an expert in Europe, particularly in tricky away matches when he has regularly contributed to defining moments on several occasions.

However, Mourinho was keen to emphasise Mkhitaryan is not a guaranteed starter at Arena CSKA.

The Premier League and the FA failing to help English teams in Europe is often a matter of ridicule for other European sides, and they have clearly failed to do so again with United this season. "Mkhitaryan is coming because he speaks Russian. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but I try to make it as easy as I can [for the Russian media]".

"I'm not saying that Mkhitaryan starts tomorrow". Champions League is a different level and the quality is higher, difficulties are higher.

Mourinho added: "He played well last season in the Europa League".
