In addition, reports compiled by the United Nations and NGOs suggest up to 39% of all land in the occupied West Bank is under the control of Jewish municipalities, local authorities and regional councils, with Israel effectively prohibiting Palestinian construction and development there.

The US diplomat added that a new American Israeli-Palestinian peace plan will be presented in the coming months, and that Trump, "at some point during his presidency will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel".

(JNS.org) In an out-of-the-ordinary statement by an American official, U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman said in an interview Thursday he believes that settlements are "part of Israel". He said that he views West Bank settlements as part of Israel, with "important nationalistic, historic, religious significance", adding that the term "two-state solution" has lost its meaning.

US President Donald Trump is in pursuit of an "Israel first" policy which can be seen in the recent telltale remarks of the US ambassador to Israel, a former US Senate candidate says.

20-year-old border policeman Solomon Gabriah from Be'er Yaakov in central Israel, and private security guards Yosef Ottman from the nearby Arab-Israeli village of Abu Ghosh and Or Arish, 25, from Har Adar were killed.

The illegal construction of Israeli settlements on Palestinian lands serves as the major obstacle to a peaceful two-state settlement of the decade's long conflict.

Even if Friedman is merely referring to areas in the West Bank that are under the control of settlements, the figure is actually 10% and if he is referring to areas exclusively reserved to Israelis, which are no-go areas for Palestinians, the figure is 40%.

"I just want to be clear that our policy has not changed", Nauert said.
