Wall's headless torso washed up on August 21 on an island near Copenhagen, and investigators were able to match blood in the submarine and torso.

The police conducted an autopsy on Wall's head and found no sign of cranium fracture or violence, said Jens Moeller Jensen, who is leading the murder investigation for Copenhagen police.

Dental records helped police confirm the head was Wall's, he added.

Investigators believe Madsen killed Wall between August 10 and 11, cut up her body and attached a belt with a pipe to the torso so it would sink.

Madsen, who is married and has been in custody since August 11, claims that Wall died when a 70kg (154-pound) hatch door fell on her head, and in a panic, he threw her body overboard.

The Kim Wall Memorial Fund has been established by her family and friends to honour her spirit and legacy. The bag found by divers off the coast of Denmark Friday also contained a knife and pipes used to weight it down. "Around dinnertime we found one leg, and then another leg. Our society is governed by rule of law, and the case and any evidence will be judged by a court of law when the time comes, if charges are pressed", she told Swedish news agency TT.

"It is from an exploratory angle, but definitely also from an ethical angle, so that the relatives of Kim Wall can get a whole human being once she is to be buried", Møller Jensen said reports Danish newspaper Politiken.

Wall, 30, was a freelance journalist from Sweden who attended Columbia Journalism School in NY, and reported on stories from Sri Lanka to North Korea.

Wall, 30, died after going out on Madsen's homemade submarine on August 10 for a story. The 18-meter UC3 Nautilus was recovered by the Danish military with only Madsen aboard, while Wall was nowhere to be found.
