In addition, Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie have been among the more high-profile celebrities to go on the record about their alleged encounters.

But the Manhattan District Attorney determined there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute, and the statute of limitations on the allegations of forcible touching, a misdemeanor, have expired.

The district attorney's office declined to press charges, and Harvey Weinstein insisted that it was a setup, but some board members and top executives anxious that Harvey Weinstein had engaged in a pattern of behavior that could jeopardize the company.

"I, like they, were very disturbed by the contents of the tape".

But prosecutor Cyrus Vance said there was insufficient proof to pursue charges. "And our sex crime prosecutors made a determination that this was not going to be a provable case, and so the decision was made not to go forward". The statute of limitations has since expired. Pierre Lescure, president of the Cannes Film Festival, said in a statement: "These actions point to a pattern of behavior that merits only the clearest and most unequivocal condemnation".
