It also features 802.11ac Wi-Fi, 1080p visuals, and Dolby Audio. The main difference is that the United States version comes with an Alexa remote that can take voice commands, while the Basic Edition has, well, a basic remote.

As rumours continue to swirl that Amazon Australia will officially launch in time for Black Friday, there are some interesting clues to be found in Amazon's launch strategy for its latest product: the Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition. So, what's changing? As compared to the current Fire TV Stick, we're lacking Alexa support in the new Basic Edition, so you won't be able to control your media playback through voice commands.

This version includes a quad-core processor, 1GB of memory, and 8GB of storage for apps and games.

The product push expands on last year's global launch of Amazon Prime Video and helps the company get its low-priced devices in more hands. Users can now order the Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition in 100 nations around the world, including Canada, France, Italy, and Spain. It also allows users access to several music and gaming apps.

That hardware is more or less the same as what's found in the 2nd and 3rd generation Fire TV Sticks, so this certainly isn't a new device.

From what I could gather, the Basic Edition doesn't exist to replace 2016's Fire TV Stick, but as an option for the rest of the world.

Like previous versions of the Fire TV Stick, the Basic Edition is very easy to use. Other countries and territories can purchase the Fire TV Stick Basic Edition from, shipped free worldwide. Another thing to point out here is that Amazon is advertising the Basic Edition as having a $49.99 price tag, but its pricing may still vary depending on the customer's location. Amazon is launching the Fire TV Stick Basic Edition as an global product, and with 100 launch regions, it'll be releasing in a lot of places where Alexa isn't available yet.
