Ruben Loftus-Cheek put in assured performance on his senior England debut against the reigning World Cup champions-Germany- no less and the youngster reaffirmed his desire to make Garerth Southgate's squad for the next year's tournament in Russian Federation.

Unless there's a catastrophic injury crisis at the end of the season, this team won't be the one Southgate selects in the World Cup next summer in Russian Federation.

Ruben did everything that I know he can.

If we'd won it would have been better, but I'm really happy, ' Loftus-Cheek, now on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea, told ITV.

The 23-year-old Everton 'keeper's highlights saw him twice deny Timo Werner with sublime low saves in the first half, though his display did not come as a surprise to Southgate.

The England manager also chose not to include experienced players in the squad such as Daniel Sturridge, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere, and will have to pick an experimental side against the world champions.

'I think we did very well against a very well-oiled machine in Germany, ' he said. He's got so many good attributes, top attributes, and that's why we put him into the team. I certainly learned a lot.

"We used the ball really well, and we created a couple of really good chances", added Southgate.

He beamed: "I'm really not surprised by what [the young players] have done because they've shown that previously in other ages and this week in training".

Solanke made the switch from Chelsea to Liverpool after the World Cup triumph but has found first-team opportunities hard to come by.

"We would have played Jack in the game against Brazil".

The 21-year-old midfielders improve midfield options that Southgate was bemoaning just months ago. It took him 10 minutes to realise, "I'm OK here, I can play" - and he is capable of anything.
