Stabbed at Mall of America Near Children Waiting to See Santa

The incident occurred when a man confronted 20-year-old Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman in the dressing room after he allegedly attempted to steal the man's belongings, CBS News reported.

For his part, Abdirahaman has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault.

A family member jumped in to help and was also stabbed. But he caught Abdirahaman in the act, and the would-be thief pulled a knife and stabbed him, authorities said.

When the victim returned to the fitting room, he confronted Abdirahaman, who stabbed him, according to police. A stabbing at one of the nation's largest malls has left two people injured and shoppers who were waiting to see Santa Claus shocked following what police call an "interrupted theft". Police said the crime started at 6:44 p.m. and they were there within two minutes.

Police said their injuries were non life-threatening.

Witnesses in the store say they saw the suspect behaving erratically before the attack.
