Five Dead In California Shooting Spree That Ended At School

Authorities said multiple shots were fired at Rancho Tehama Elementary School around 8 a.m. and there were multiple victims.

The shooter's identity is now unclear, and as one man indicated, two gunmen might have carried out the attack. The gunman was killed by law enforcement officers who responded to the carnage spreading across what police described as a "very widespread area". Mercy Dignity Health confirmed that the hospital has received three patients. The violence moved to Rancho Tehama Elementary School, and children were wounded. Officials said they are actively searching for the shooter.

"I know that we have Medivaced a number of students", the official said, referring to the use of helicopters for the emergency transport of victims to hospitals.

A reporter at Action News Now described anxious parents trying to get to their children at Rancho Tehama Elementary.

About 100 students attend the school where the shooting took place, according to a school official. Authorities recovered a semi-automatic rifle and two handguns reportedly used by the shooter.

Brian Flint told local media his neighbor was the shooter and had stolen his truck. Flint said the neighbor had been shooting "hundreds of rounds" from large magazines.
