We are just one week away from Thanksgiving and AAA has released their predictions for a very busy Thanksgiving travel weekend.

This represents the most travelers since 2007 and a almost 3.5 percent increase over a year ago.

"So many more people are doing pre-holiday trips to take in all the experiences created to get people into the spirit of the season", said travel expert Jeanenne Tornatore.

Gas prices jumped more than 10 percent after hurricanes Harvey and Irma, peaking on September 8 at an average of $2.67 a gallon. Many Green Bay Packers fans may also be traveling to Pittsburgh, to see the team take on the Steelers. About 3.3 million will fly, which is a 5 percent increase from last year's Thanksgiving holiday.

It is the sixth consecutive year air travel has grown during the holiday, and now accounts now for 7.8 percent of all travel, its highest share since 2010, AAA said.

The Thanksgiving holiday travel period is defined as Wednesday, Nov. 22 to Sunday, Nov. 26, according to AAA.

Springfield averages $2.54 a gallon, according to AAA.

"When consumer confidence is high, more people are willing to travel, even if it means taking on debt", says AAA Idaho spokesman Matthew Conde.

"Idaho has experienced a seasonal price drop, but it's been slower than in recent years", Conde said.

Cheaper airfare: Consumers will pay the cheapest average airfare since 2013. Nationally, 89 percent of travelers - 45.5 million - will go by vehicle, which is 3.2 percent higher than past year.

In Virginia, more than 1,270,000 are expected to travel by automobile, 103,000 will travel by plane and 30,000 will be using other modes of transportation. What is interesting is gas prices in Wisconsin are likely to be at their highest since 2014.

Holiday high: auto rental daily rates will hit a five-year holiday high at $70/day, which may be due to an increase in domestic demand and cost of newer vehicles.
