Google Maps Update to Bring New Color Scheme, Icons for POIs

It's nearly hard to imagine these days how we've managed to survive the past decades without Google Maps and related services like Waze.

Maps is also getting a new color scheme as well as new icons that aim to help users quickly identify places of interest.

Google will soon be rolling out a new look for the driving, navigation, transit and explore views in Maps to display relevant information more prominently according to each mode.

Google has announced that it is revamping Maps to make it easier to understand and use. You probably don't care about local gas stations when you're looking up subway locations, so Maps will be smarter about which icons it shows you. It's a pretty useful change, considering previously, Maps would be filled with identical blue-colored icons for stores, cafes, and doctor's offices.

Google has also improved overall Maps functionality, adding in better information for driving, navigation in general and public transport.

Google Maps comes with a unique colourful icon for cafe, church, museum and other commonly recognised places. Over time, the new design will be rolled out to apps, companies, experiences, and websites that use Google Maps APIs.

Google says users can expect to see the update on all Google products that support Google Maps, including the Google Assistant, Google Search, Google Earth, and Android Auto, over the next few weeks.
