Tiger Woods: 'Life is so much better'

He underwent back surgery in April, his fourth such procedure in just over three years.

Although there were serious question marks on how well his recovery had developed during the summer months, his practice rounds of late with Fowler, and a high-profile outing last week in Florida in the group that included Trump, have provided indications that he is playing pain-free again.

Fowler told Golf.com that Woods has been driving it by him, and according to Faxon, Woods hit it by Johnson on half the holes when both players hit driver.

And those comments were confirmed by Faxon, who completed the fourball over the Thanksgiving holiday at Trump's course.

A day after the round, Faxon wrote a story on how the round went and he praised Woods' play.

PGA member Brad Faxon played a round of golf with Woods, current world No. 1 Dustin Johnson and President Donald Trump on Friday at Trump National Golf Club. "He looked effortless, he looked free, he had some power". I was like, "Yep, I hit driver today". Being in a great mental place may be an even better sign for Woods since golf is an extremely mental sport and he has gone through so many distractions recently. "He was not concerned about swinging hard and going at it with driver", Faxon observed. On Sunday, Woods was asked about his swing.

"I haven't really competed in two years, really", Woods said ahead of his first start since withdrawing from the Dubai Desert Classic after round one in February.

Woods and Reed played nine holes at the Albany golf course in preparation for the Hero World Challenge and the young American was clearly impressed by the form of the 14-time major victor. That was his only competitive outing of 2016.

Woods explained that his surgeon initially cleared him to start hitting putts, which had been the most hard thing to do before the surgery, and he gradually made his way through his bag, first hitting driver just 150 yards. And it's been a struggle for years. To finally come out on the good side of it, it's exciting. I am stiffer. Of course, [his lower back is] fused.
