National Basketball Association fines Davis 25K for verbally abusing official

The New Orleans Pelicans' All-NBA forward went down in a heap after receiving slight hip-check contact by Derrick Favors on the low block.

With the Pelicans awaiting further word on Davis' left pelvis injury, New Orleans improved to 2-0 this season in games with Davis sidelined, including the Week 2 comeback win at Sacramento on TNT.

Davis will sit out Saturday night's game against the Portland Trail Blazers with what is officially being called a groin strain, the team announced.

Davis (groin) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Portland, Mike Richman of The Oregonian reports. Without him, New Orleans failed to contain the Jazz offense, allowing rookie Donovan Mitchell to score 41 points, sending the Pelicans to its third straight loss.

Minnesota responded by finishing the half on a 17-6 run to take a 62-49 lead into the halftime locker room.

The Brow finished the game with 19 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes.
