They picked Buffalo's defense apart on the ground, rushing for 191 yards. Buffalo finished the game with just 268 total yards.

Where does Bill Belichick find these guys. "We're trying to get ready for Buffalo, and that's a big task". Both backs consistently broke through first contact and broke away for several chunk plays, including this career-long carry by Lewis.

The game got chippy toward the end. Lawson was carted to the locker room in the third quarter with a knee injury. But the real story here was that questionable hit in the fourth quarter on Bills' cornerback Tre'Davious White following an interception of Tom Brady. Ultimately, the play did not have any outcome on the game, but it was not a good look for one of the faces of the franchise.

Rookie Nathan Peterman replaced Taylor and led the Bills to the 1-yard-line on his first series before turning the ball over on downs. He completed six of 15 passes for 50 yards. The Bills allowed 130 or more rushing yards for the fifth time this year in their loss. Ultimately, keeping the scoreboard clean is more important, but New England can not afford to let potential playoff opponents like Pittsburgh or Kansas City control the clock with an effective ground game. LeSean McCoy ran for 93 yards while the Bills' leading receiver, Charles Clay, caught just three passes. Lewis had a 44-yard gain early on in the half and Burkhead busted out for a career-long 31-yard gain on New England's final drive of the half. The Patriots had scored at least 13 points in the first half of their previous 11 games.

Stephen Gostkowski is a flawless 3 for 3 on field goal attempts, with a long of 50 yards in the windy conditions in western NY. The Pats took a 16-3 lead after marching 70 yards on their first possession of the second half and a 23-3 lead when Rex Burkhead rumbled through the middle for a 14-yard TD.

The New England Patriots are on the road in NFL Football action on Sunday, taking on the Buffalo Bills. The 2010 first-round pick earned one Pro Bowl selection during his five years in Buffalo before signing a lucrative contract to join the dark side.

NOTES: Patriots C David Andrews returned to action after missing two games due to illness.
