The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that two students were shot at Graham-Kapowsin High School in Graham.

Troyer told Seattle Times the students who were present at school remained with the deputies until the danger cleared.

Witnesses described the suspects as black males who reportedly fled the scene in a green automobile, possibly a Chevrolet Impala or similar in appearance. The sheriff's department says it was found overnight by a Tacoma police officer and impounded.

Four schools were on lockdown as deputies investigated the shooting: Graham-Kapowsin High, Frontier Middle School, Nelson Elementary School and Graham Elementary School, according to Bethel School District spokesman Douglas Boyles.

"Deputies are actively sweeping the school grounds, at this point no indications that shooters are on campus", The Pierce County Sheriff's Office tweeted.

Troyer said officials believe the shooting took place off school property and the wounded students ran back onto the campus. It shows a group of people standing next to what appears to be a green Impala having an argument. "That part of the investigation is still continuing", Troyer said.

It's unclear what the students' conditions are, but they've been taken to Tacoma General Hospital. He also said they might have gang ties. But three other nearby schools were locked down as a precaution.

The shooting happened about 2:30 p.m. near the school, 22100 108th Ave. We have been assured that students still on campus are safe. "We're going into lockdown".

"I knew he wasn't one of the kids that was shot, and I pray for them and their parents". The male students shot were hospitalized and expected to survive. This is a scary situation and we are proud of how our staff, students and families have been and are still reacting to it.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office appealed for the public's help in identifying the two wanted suspects and tweeted that Crime Stoppers was offering a reward for information.
