Kaplan confirmed that new holiday-themed skins will be added to the game during the event.

Various maps will also have a winter makeover including King's Row and Hanamura as well as an update for Black Forest.

Now about the skins, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has confirmed that a ton of them will be up for grabs, including legendary ones and a "long-awaited Hanzo skin" that turned up in one of the Overwatch comics before. In this Overwatch winter event guide, we'll be keeping you up to date with everything you need to know about the Winter Wonderland event, including what dates it starts and ends on, as well as all the brand new legendary character skins featured within.

Winter Wonderland launches on all platforms on December 12 as a free update.

The Winter Wonderland event is also seeing the return of Mei's snowball fight game mode. Items from the previous year will be discounted and cheaper than the new items, similar to this year's Halloween event which also features the previous Halloween themed collections at a discounted rate. In Mei's Yeti Hunt, Overwatch fans can get their first look at an official boss fight mode where Winston must collect meat from all around the map without being defeated by the team of Mei hunters. Any new outfit or additional cosmetic from 2017 is always at a higher cost.

Speaking of Mei, Blizzard is planning a new event around the snowy scientist. Called "Mei's Yeti Hunt", this game mode will task five different Mei players with hunting down and defeating a Yeti, who just so happens to be Winston in his holiday skin.

If one thing makes Overwatch so popular and makes players go back to it even after long periods of inactivity, is the game's events. When the Yeti is defeated, the group of Meis wins, whereas if a certain number of Meis die, the Winston player wins.
