Kane going for Shearer's mark

Harry Kane will aim to become the highest scorer in a calendar year in English Premier League history - one of many records the Tottenham striker looks capable of setting. It also capped another late surge to personal glory after he scored seven goals in the final two games of last season to beat Romelu Lukaku to the Golden Boot.

In the bulld-up to Tuesday's clash, Kane has spoken of his intent of breaking Alan Shearer's all-time record of 260 goals and if he keeps going at his current pace, there's no reason why the Spurs striker won't be able to accomplish the feat.

The England forward is level with Bayern Munich's Polish forward Robert Lewandowski, Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Paris St Germain's Edinson Cavani.Unlike any of his rivals for the record, however, Kane still has a game left to play this year - a home game against Southampton on December 26. He almost grabbed a hat-trick midway through the second half, volleying Rose's cross an inch wide, before clinching it with a cool left-footed finish from Alli's pass.

"First of all I want to congratulate Harry Kane, a massive achievement for him, well deserved", the Argentine coach said after the game. You deserve to hold the record of most @premierleague goals in a calendar year.

He would stunningly reduce the deficit to one after bagging his seveth hat-trick of 2017 away to a nominally formidable Burnley side at Turf Moor.

10 - Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli were the most frequent providers for Kane with 10 assists apiece.

"Southampton have gone - no Charlie Austin, no Virgil van Dijk, so I can not see anything other than a Tottenham win".

At full-back, Rose (who was so impressive for the all-important first goal) played as well as he has since returning from injury while Serge Aurier, who kept his place ahead of Kieran Trippier, was energetic and used the ball well.

"They are fantastic players here". Even during my time at Spurs I'm surprised by him. Sofiane Boufal pulled a goal back for Southampton in the 64th and substitute Dusan Tadic scored in the 82nd. Saints did the opposite, backing off Son, Alli and Eriksen naively and allowing Spurs to pick them off at will. And just after 67 minutes he completed his eighth hat-trick of 2017 (with six of them coming in the Premier League).
