The uniforms feature a cream colored base, with a blue script font to celebrate the history of the City of Philadelphia and it's revolutionary heritage.

The team describes the design as the result of inspiration from the natural beauty and wonders of their home state.

The Celtics' new "City Edition" uniforms released by Nike on Wednesday are gray, but a much lighter shade than the alternates they have worn in recent years (see Marcus Smart photo, below) - and, thankfully, there are no sleeves.

The brand new City Edition uniforms are a bit more nontraditional than previous National Basketball Association uniforms. The team says that the color range, including gold and deep burgandy, represent famous rock formations, canyons, vistas, etc. found throughout southern Utah.

According to Nike, each of the designs honor the fans - "those who, 41 times a year, take pilgrimage at their local arena, and whose passions help define each respective team's identity".

The Los Angeles Lakers' black jersey nods to recently-retired Kobe Bryant, while the Boston Celtics' jerseys tips the cap to the parquet floor and coaching great Red Auerbach. The Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors will unveil their City Edition uniforms at a later date.

The team will debut the uniforms February 2 against the Miami Heat at the Wells Fargo Center as part of its "Spirit of '76" campaign.
