Man with guns arrested at Houston hotel

After calling for back up, police entered the man's hotel room and noticed ammunition.

Stanley was arrested and charged with trafficking heroin, four counts of possession of scheduled drugs, unlawful carrying of a pistol and simple possession of marijuana.

Less than 24 hours before party goers were set to pack the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Downtown police made a major arrest.

Once police arrived around 1:30 a.m., they searched the man's room on the 28th floor, the top floor of the hotel, where they found the weapons and ammo cache.

The hotel's annual party Sunday night is one of the city's largest New Year's Eve celebrations. Hotel staff said he was drunk at the bar, and refused to leave.

USA police say they arrested him after the weapons were discovered at the Hyatt Regency in downton Houston in the early hours of Sunday morning. That's where they found an AR-15, a shotgun and a handgun, as well as "many rounds of ammunition", the paper reported. Investigators say he was by himself and they are trying to figure out why he had the weapons.

Officers found weapons both in the man's hotel room and in his auto.

Police are waiting to interview the man until he has sobered up, Macintosh said.

A police spokesman said Sunday afternoon that investigators couldn't speculate about the man's intent.
