Former Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., said Tuesday she is considering running for Al Franken's Senate seat, but is anxious she will face disastrous attacks from the media and Democrats as a Christian politician. It comes almost a month after he announced his plans to leave Congress after a swirl of sexual misconduct allegations that began in November.

That leaves Minnesota will just one U.S. Senator from now until the time Lt. Gov. Tina Smith is sworn in, which is expected around noon Wednesday. She's likely to run in the 2018 special election, and The Hill notes Smith would have "virtually unanimous support" from Democrats. He held an event in Minneapolis last week to thank supporters and friends. At about 24 minutes into the interview, she said she's mulling it over with her husband but didn't offer a timetable for a decision.

Franken, the former comedian who made his name on "Saturday Night Live", had originally sought to remain in the Senate and cooperate with an ethics investigation, saying he would work to regain the trust of Minnesotans. "So I didn't shed a tear when I left the contest because I felt like, you know, I fulfilled the calling that God gave me". "Others I remember quite differently". Franken disputed or denied numerous accounts.

The allegations against him began in mid-November when Leeann Tweeden, now a Los Angeles radio anchor, accused him of forcibly kissing her during a 2006 USO tour in Afghanistan.

Minnesota is down one US senator for about a day.

If Bachmann does plan on running for Franken's seat, she may have to start her campaign pretty soon. A fourth woman, an Army veteran, alleged Franken cupped her breast during a photo on a USO tour in 2003.
