Wise's casting is well-deserved after she earned ample praise for her role as Nola Darling.

Could Wise maybe bring Monica Rambeau to life? Details surrounding her character remain unknown.

The story follows Air Force pilot Carol whose DNA is fused with that of an alien in an accident, giving her super strength, energy projection and flight powers.

Actors Samuel Jackson, Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn will co-star in the movie, which will premiere on March 8, 2019. The addition of Monica Rambeau's Captain Marvel would make sense, as the film is clearly working with the knowledge that there's been more than one hero who's held the mantle. Their subsequent battle resulted in Danvers gaining her powers.

So far, there is no word on whether Monica will factor into Captain Marvel, but fans will find out soon enough.

Wise's character has the potential to pull a Falcon in Ant-Man and cameo all around the Marvel movie universe. It would be a huge statement of intent to cast a black female superhero alongside Brie Larson, proof that Marvel is dedicated to diversifying their films from here on out. Marvel Studios is gearing up for the start of production on their first female led film.

DeWanda Wise is the latest star to join the cast of "Captain Marvel". You see, in January 1982, Marvel released the graphic novel, The Death of Captain Marvel, featuring Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel, passing away. She is now fresh off a role in She's Gotta Have It on Netflix, but no word on who she is playing is available at this time.
