Two airliners collided on the tarmac of Toronto's Pearson International Airport on Saturday morning, causing a small fire.

Fire and emergency services responded to the collision between the two planes from Sunwing Airlines and Westjet Airlines, which happened at 6:19 p.m. (2319 GMT), the Greater Toronto Airport Authority said in a statement.

The Boeing 737, operated by Westjet, had landed from Cancun, Mexico, and was waiting to approach the gate, when it was "struck" by a Sunwing plane, Westjet said.

According to one passenger account, the tail of the Sunwing plane backed into the wing of the WestJet flight, causing a fire to break out, reported CTV.

One video showed children frantically looking around and yelling as they awaited instruction.

Although no injuries were reported from the passengers, a Toronto Pearson Fire and Emergency Service personnel was reportedly injured and had to be taken to the hospital. "Out of nowhere there was an audible crunch and the plane rocked slightly". Everyone was a little shocked and kind of chuckling at the situation'. "We regret this incident and are cooperating fully with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada's investigation", a spokesperson told CBC. "People were screaming and panicking".

Passengers on board the WestJet flight were evacuated using the emergency exit slides.

"Due to the position of the aircraft on the laneway, WestJet guests required evacuation via emergency slide". "After a couple of seconds the entire thing ignited and it was chaos inside the plane". No crew or passengers were aboard the Sunwing aircraft, as it was hauled away from the terminal by ground crew.

A spokesman for the Transportation Safety Board, a Canadian agency that investigates transportation incidents, said that a team was headed to the airport to investigate.

Westjet has confirmed that all the passengers and crew were evacuated safely.
