DJI Announces New OSMO Mobile 2 Gimbal for Smartphones - Cheaper, Lighter, Better

DJI has announced the new Ronin-S, the company's first single-handed stabilizer for DSLR and mirrorless cameras. It has the ActiveTrack feature available, allowing you to point an object and have the gimbal automatically track that object as it moves around.

Flagships like the iPhone 8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 record crisp video at 4K quality, and are also capable still shooters. The Osmo Mobile 2 is the company's next-gen camera stabiliser for smartphones. But the new one handles fifteen hours of usage like a boss.

With 15 hours of battery life, the Osmo Mobile 2 lasts up to 3x as long as the original, and a new USB port allows you to use the Osmo Mobile 2 as a battery bank for other devices while you're using it. DJI is also including a 1/4-inch tripod screw to the bottom of the gimbal, rather than the add-on accessory of before. Additionally, there are integrated settings for ISO, shutter speed as well as a zoom slider. The Osmo Mobile released previous year was seemingly a response to the fact that today's smartphones are pretty good at shooting video on their own, and allowed owners to whack their handsets on the end and go for broke. The Osmo Mobile 2 arrives with improved features and the best part is that it comes at a lower price tag of $130. Pre-orders open up on January 23, and it will start to ship in February. For those using smartphones for serious shooting, a selfie stick is not enough.

High-torque motors support the camera and lens combinations including the Canon 5D, Panasonic GH and Sony Alpha systems.

The gimbal can be locked down for camera mounting and calibration, so setup is easier than with other devices. Like the Osmo Mobile 2, this gimbal will help you shoot shake-free video with a cinematic and professional look - except you'll be attaching much bigger cameras to it. Apart from these, the Osmo Mobile 2 also supports Panorama mode which lets you take advantage of its gimble to capture a seamless photo.

Ronin-S is compatible with a variety of DJI Pro Accessories including a Focus Control Center consisting of a focusing dial and a screen allowing advanced gimbal and focus control without a mobile device, a vehicle mount solution, DJI Master Force, DJI Master Wheels, an external focus motor, and a cheese plate adapter so they can be used with third-party accessories.

The DJI Ronin-S release date will be available in the next few months through DJI's online store as well as it retail partners (i.e. Amazon and the Apple Store).
