She'll be attending The Willcocks Nursery School, a program that is very close to Kensington Palace and describes itself as a "traditional nursery school which strives to maintain its ethos for high standards, excellence and good manners".

In response to Charlotte's new photos, many royal fans couldn't believe how much she's grown.

In the pictures, the fourth in line to the throne is wearing a coat and scarf and what appears to be a rucksack. Despite her young age, Charlotte is already settling into a lifetime of royal duties.

The Cambridges will then be prompted to see if their daughter, who can bring a favourite photo or toy from home, "is happy to be left".

Kate, who turns 36 on Tuesday, and William will welcome a third child to their family in April.

The school, which charges £14,550 ($19,740) per year, was classed as "outstanding" at the last official inspection in 2012.

In September, Charlotte's older brother, Prince George, started at Thomas's Battersea, a fee-paying independent school in south London. A special "lunch club" offers French lessons and "local outings".

But it won't be all clay-pot making for Charlotte: she'll have to tidy away dress ups and put out milk for her classmates.

Pictures taken by her pregnant mother showed the smiling two-year-old outside her home before she set off to begin at the private Willcocks Nursery School in Kensington. "We look forward to welcoming Charlotte to our nursery in January".
