British bobsledder Bruce Tasker insists a minor stroke will not stop him receiving a retrospective Winter Olympic medal in PyeongChang next month if the opportunity arises.

UK Sport has more than doubled investment in winter sports since Sochi, putting up a total of £32m over the four years leading up to the 2018 Games.

UK Sport director of performance Chelsea Warr said: "One of the unique aspects of winter sport is its unpredictability".

Short track speed skater Elise Christie, a triple gold medalist at last year's world championships, will again be one of the big hopes after bouncing back from three disqualifications in Sochi. It is high risk, it has high reward, it has high stakes in a very competitive arena.

The two Koreas held their first high-level talks in two years on Tuesday, and the North agreed to send a delegation of athletes, cheerleaders, an art troupe and taekwondo demonstration teams, along with high-ranking officials, to the February 9-25 PyeongChang Olympics in the South.

The ministry said the North wanted to also propose another date for working-level talks about its participation in the winter olympics.

Attitudes have changed, however, and the amount of National Lottery and government funding for the Olympics and Paralympics has risen to more than 32 million pounds ($43 million) across eight sports. Meanwhile the women's curling team led by Eve Muirhead won bronze at the 2017 World Championships are also seen as a good bet for a medal.
