Nintendo today held a Direct Mini that everyone had been expecting since EA internal documents leaked mid-December. The Direct kicked off with a Nintendo Switch port of the 2007 Nintendo DS game, The World Ends with You. Players can also use the Joy-Con controllers to try combat in an all-new way, though the Direct Mini didn't share details on how that mechanic would work. Wave one (January 31) will include new contender Aegislash and supports Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu. This wave will include the battle character Blastoise along with Mew and Celebi as a support set.

The presentation focused on announcing the new content that is and will be available for these two devices. Exactly one month later comes Nintendo's first offering, Kirby Star Allies, a new platformer based on abilities and ability combos.

New footage showed off Friend Abilities, which allow you to merge two copy abilities to create a new effect.

The Payday 2 port for Nintendo Switch now has a release date of 27th February.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition will be available in "Spring 2018". The DLC will unlock different content as time goes by.

"This is further proof that Nintendo has momentum coming into 2018", said Ward.

And yes, the series is back for Nintendo Switch, promising a story mode with missions, boss battles and more. NIS is also bringing a treasured JRPG series over, with Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, which launches sometime this summer.

Nintendo will need a big, original game for late 2018, and our money is on Animal Crossing. Mario + Rabbids fans will be getting new DLC where they will have the option to play as Donkey Kong, and Mario Odyssey players can look forward a free update with some new challenges thanks to "Luigi's Balloon World".

The fact that the game is actually going to feature a story mode is a huge deal. The update is coming in February. The game is highly challenging but thankfully, there will be a dedicated game mode for beginners. It's coming this summer.

Most surprising of all, Nintendo seems to understand how to release DLC without making anyone angry. The update will also add new outfits and Snapshot Mode filters. The game thrusts players into the geometric world of Fe with very little guidance or instruction. This one is expected to drop on 25 January.

At E3 previous year Nintendo confirmed new Metroid Prime and Pokémon games for Switch, but neither is likely to make a 2018 release date given the manner of their announcement and the scope of the games themselves.

Another Wii U game, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, will come to Switch on May 4.
