Well, who saw this coming?

In a report obtained by Apple Insider, acclaimed KGI Securities' analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says disappointing sales of the iPhone X will lead to the cancellation of the model.

Apple hasn't revealed how many iPhone X units it sold in the fourth quarter, but a new study from researcher Canalys has put a number on it.

The LCD iPhone is rumored to sport a rather odd feature-set for a mid-range smartphone - and especially for an Apple iPhone. He has previously predicted that Apple will extend its all-screen technology this year by launching three new iPhones in different screen sizes, such as 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.5-inch. This upcoming mid-range iPhone will also only feature one rear camera instead of a dual shooter system, 3GB of RAM rather than the 4GB Kuo says will be included in the updated 2018 iPhone X models, and perhaps most interestingly, no 3D Touch functionality.

When the world tuned in to the launch of Apple's glamorous, hi-tech iPhone X, jaws dropped at the price of the device - which retails at £999 in Britain. Unfortunately, there has been evidence that Apple is planning to discontinue the model once a successor is announced. This also suggests that the 6.1-inch iPhone may sport a taller display, although not as tall as the iPhone X which comes with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

According to data reported Monday by CIRP, the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X accounted for about 61% of all US sales during the fourth quarter. The company says this newly designed LCD will allow the size of a smartphone device to be almost the same as the display size. That was enough for the iPhone X to top the iPhone 8 Plus, which accounted for 17% of total iPhone sales during the period, but well behind the iPhone 8, which tallied 20% of sales. It has a slim bezel on all four sides and an aspect ratio of 18:9. However, this shouldn't have any effect on key user experience. Apart from this, unlike the stainless steel frame on the latest iteration of the device, the 6.1-inch iPhone will boast an aluminum frame. Combined with the new touch panel, it is possible that the cost for the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone could be higher than expected.

The iPhone X, Apple's $1,000 pride and joy at the moment might possibly share the same fate as the iPhone 5C if this leak pans out.
