Casey Affleck will no longer present the Oscar for best actress

Though Affleck stepped aside to keep the focus on the accomplishments of women, you can bet that Emma Stone, who won Best Actress a year ago for La La Land, will be presenting the statue for Best Actor to the talented men in that category.

Variety reports that Affleck will not attend the ceremony on March 4th.

Affleck took home the Best Actor trophy year for his work in Manchester By The Sea and, as per tradition, he was slated to present the Best Actress award this year.

If Affleck were to participate in this year's ceremony, his presence could be problematic.

Affleck's reputation has been tainted over the past few years after two women came forward accusing him of sexually harassing them on the set of I'm Still Here in 2008 and 2009.

Affleck's appearance at the Oscars would presumably have been an awkward one, given the current focus on the #MeToo movement and the Time's Up initiative. The actor has since denied all the allegations and later settled both suits for undisclosed amounts with both women signing nondisclosure agreements. He would have been in line to present the best actress award if the Academy had followed tradition, under which the previous year's best actor victor would present the following year's award for best actress. These allegations resurfaced previous year when Affleck was making the awards circuit for Manchester. After his win, Affleck said to the Boston Globe about the resulting online backlash, "There's really nothing I can do about it".

Later, she explained that the action "spoke for itself". "Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time".
