With the Overwatch event just around the corner, game developer Jeff Kaplan has shared some new information on the upcoming Year of the Dog.

Kaplan touched on some of the skins coming to Overwatch with the Year of the Dog Lunar event. Fans will be able to bite into the Year of the Dog event tomorrow (February 8). Last year's event, Year of the Rooster, was themed after Journey to the West and introduced several skins influenced by the classic Chinese novel. Join game director Jeff Kaplan as he talks about what to expect from this year's festivities-including a new Capture the Flag competitive mode, new Capture the Flag map, over 50 new seasonal items, and more. See, we knew skins and emotes would come into this somewhere!

"There's no more draws...they're not very exciting and can feel very anticlimactic". Hence, both teams could have the same score at the end of the timers, and both flags will get closer to each other on the map.

Additionally, certain mobility or invulnerability-granting abilities will cause a player to drop the flag - the example Kaplan offered was Winston's leap ability, though it's likely abilities like Genji's dash and Reaper's Wraith Form will have the same effect. "We think you'll enjoy it, but the coolest part, in my opinion, is it's the first map that we've ever built specifically for Capture the Flag".

He said the unnamed map is "absolutely gorgeous".

It's to arrive today, when a four-week event starts to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Overwatch launched in May 2016. "The games are now much more offensive, and much more action-packed".

It would be wrong to dismiss these changes to CTF as a mere holiday event or temporary hype. Those who place in the top 500 will earn a special spray and icon. In this year's event, Kaplan explains that draws in Capture the Flag are basically a thing of the past. Unlike existing maps, designed for other game modes before later getting converted to fit CTF, the new map is only made for CTF. This will be the second time an event game mode comes with a competitive version, the first being Lúcioball, in the Summer Games 2017 event.
